According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF) coaching is the partnering of a coach with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.
What will the Coaching process look like?
Throughout our coaching journey together, we will have a number of meaningful conversations in which I will offer you a space to think out loud, reflect and come to new conclusions in a non-judgemental, safe environment.
Using powerful questions, we will shine a light on any stumbling blocks on your way to achieving your career goal. This will also help you to see aspects of your journey from a different angle.
With the help of tried and tested tools, you will find out what matters to you and we will look at your values, strengths, and motivators to give you a clear vision of the career that is right for you.
I believe in a holistic approach, addressing not just the situation you want to change, but also your life situation as a whole and the emotions connected to your journey forward. During this process, we will not just look at what it is you would like to achieve and how you will get there, but also at how you want to feel when you reach your goal.
Career change coaching will help you:
Understand what matters to you using tried and tested tools
Focus on the positive
Find ideas for future careers, places to research and people to contact
Come up with realistic action steps to move towards your goal
Test out the new career before committing
Encourage, motivate and hold you accountable during the entire coaching journey
What happens between sessions?
I usually meet with my clients every 2 - 4 weeks to give them enough time to implement new learnings and take the action steps agreed to in the session.
You will leave each session with a number of action steps required to reach your overall goal. During our following session, we will then discuss and reflect on how you got on with your action steps. I might also suggest some additional exercises between sessions that will support you on your journey of discovery.
What I will ask of you.
The Coaching journey is yours and I will be there to support you all the way. In order to make this a success I would ask you to:
Show up and be punctual
Be totally honest with yourself
Be willing to put in the work required to reach your goal
Approach the journey with a positive outlook
What Coaching is not.
As a Career Change Coach I will guide you but I won't tell you what to do, give you my opinion or make decisions for you. One of the key elements that I have learned from becoming a Coach is that there is no one-fits-all solution. What works well for me, might not work for you at all. Everyone is different and I strongly believe that the best answers and solutions are those we find within ourselves.
A career change coach also can't replace a Therapist or a Counsellor. Whilst during our coaching sessions we might sometimes look to the past to enable learnings moving forward, we will mainly focus on the future and what lies ahead. If you feel there are serious matters in your past that would first need to be dealt with before you can move forward, then career change coaching might not be right for you at this point in time.
